I gave up Charmintissue because they gave up on DEI. At Age 80 I think I am very brave because I always bought the softest Charmin. Right now all I can find is tissue that I swear has tire tracks stamped in it but I didn’t fight and march through the Civil Rights of the 60’s to bow down to these oligarchs to say oh well.
Congratulations on the Award! Really loved your book...as an African-American gay male growing up in Tampa, I relate and identified so much. I am joining you in the Amazon boycott and trying watch more carefully where I spend. BTW, There is absolutely nothing stupid about boycotting Amazon...“If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way”
Thank you for all the kind words. I'm so happy you found this book. I wrote it FOR US. And all the "others" without an official box to check. And cheers to boycotts baby!! I didn't want to get too much into it with this piece, but I'm also avoiding Target, Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, Publix (which is so damn hard here in FL). Really trying to shop locally as much as I can. The small things, let's hope and pray, add up.
Congrats on the award—that’s amazing! I’m so excited to follow along on this zero-Amazon journey. Please keep the updates coming because I know I’ll need the inspiration! I’m all about shopping local and voting with my dollars, but I have to admit, Amazon Prime is my go-to for those random “oh no” moments, like when the dog destroys a pair of shoelaces or the kids need something for school last minute. Thank you for sharing your journey—it’s already got me reflecting on how I can do better!
We are weaning ourselves. I canceled my Prime but still have a few months left. I broke my boycott the other day when my 14 yo needed a TI-84 calculator for a geometry test and Best Buy didn't have any in stock locally. But that's been the only caving so far. The hard part is, whether you get shoelaces at Amazon or Target or the Dollar Store, it's all fueling billionaires because the US is so broken :(
I know. So broken! And when I try to buy used on Marketplace I end up missing the messages because I have them on mute! It's okay. I'm feeling encouraged by you! Keep it up!
So happy to hear that Jennifer‘s is still alive and thriving. That was my mom‘s favorite store when I was a kid and I have such great memories of sitting in the dressing room with her. Also, very excited about that May 15 event in Saint Pete, can’t wait to hear more!!

Yes aunt Vicki! I can’t believe having fought so hard once only to see it all fall apart :( It’s awful
Yay! I voted for you! But the irony of having purchased your book on Amazon is not lost on me, or likely you, either.
Hahaha! Listen. We do the best we can with the resources and info we have at any given moment. ... And thank you for your vote! :)
Inspiring.

Awww, I love that! And yes, I hope to have more details on the May 15 event soon :)
I quit Amazon too! High-fiving you from afar.
It feels like thee stupidest way to "protest" ... and yet, it's something
